Alaska Airlines Center

This new sports arena is 196,000 s.f. and is a multi-use facility that will house a 5,000 seat performance gymnasium for basketball and volleyball as well as a practice and performance gym for the gymnastics program.  The facility offers several support spaces:  a fitness and training room, offices for administrative staff and coaching staff, laundry space, A/V production, locker and team rooms for basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, skiing, track and cross country programs. The main arena is steel trusses with curved top and bottom chords spanning up to 206 feet.

The exterior concrete columns at the trusses are 4’ x 6’ tapering to   2’ x 3’ at the top.

The interior columns at the trusses lean up to 14 degrees from vertical.  The entire structure was modeled in Revit (software) in all disciplines with 3D interference coordination done with Navisworks.  This was critical for a structure with such a complex geometry.
